Senator Rodante Marcoleta warned fellow lawmakers against abandoning the Senate majority bloc amid ongoing rumors of another possible leadership change in the upper chamber.
The remarks came as speculation continues over another potential move to replace Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano just days after he assumed the post.
“Mas masahol pa kay Judas ang maghu-Hudas sa amin. Wala kaming pag-uusap. Sinabi ko lang sa grupo namin,” Marcoleta said.
[Translation: Anyone who betrays us is worse than Judas. We haven’t had discussions about it. I just told our group.]
Marcoleta also revealed that Senator Camille Villar supposedly raised the same sentiment during the majority bloc caucus held on the night of May 13, when the controversial gunfire incident inside the Senate took place.
Villar is among the members of the Senate majority bloc that backed Cayetano’s election as Senate president.
“Nalulungkot ako. Sabi ko bakit kaya nangyari sa bansa namin ito,” Marcoleta added.
[Translation: I felt saddened. I asked why this had to happen in our country.]
Judas Iscariot, a biblical figure and apostle of Jesus Christ, is widely known for betraying Jesus in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. His name has long been used to describe traitors or disloyal allies.
