Earlier closure of restaurants and bars and prohibition of outdoor public gatherings are only some of the measures strictly implemented in Italy following their lockdown until next month due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The announcement made on the weekend had already taken a toll in areas that are usually frequented by tourists.

In Milan, most of the shops that remained open are empty, says a report by Reuters.
The government has already ordered cinemas, theaters, and museums to close and told shops and restaurants to ensure that patrons remained at least a meter apart.
Restaurants and bars are now ordered to close at 6 p.m. and all Alpine ski resorts are also ordered shut.
Public transport remains operational in Italy.

The 60 million people there will only be able to travel for work, medical reasons or emergencies until April 3.
Schools and universities will also not reopen before next month.
As of this writing, there are 9,172 cases and 463 deaths so far from COVID-19.
