Department of Health (DOH) said Monday they are looking for possibility of transmission of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) through human waste.
DOH Epidemiology Bureau Director Ferchito Avelino said the measure was sought following the report that nCoV was discovered in the stool of the first confirmed case of 2019-nCoV in the United States.
“But then ang tanong is gaano karami ‘yung virus and ‘yung dami ng virus ba, is it capable to transmit [nCoV]? For nCoV, mas mataas ‘yung viral load niya sa nasopharyngeal area and oropharyngeal area at sa dugo,” Avelino told GMA News.
Chinese authorities confirmed on Sunday that the virus can be transmitted through the digestive system, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
