Seismologists predicted that Taal Volcano’s activity may take a couple of days or even months.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) emphasized that the Taal Volcano remained at Alert Level 4 due to its active seismic activity.
The Philippine Seismic Network has recorded a total of two hundred twelve (212) volcanic earthquakes in Taal region as of 2:00 AM, January 14, 2020.
The head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Renato Solidum announced that for the past 24 hours, they observed volcanic quakes with an intensity of 1 to 5.
As of 11:03 AM today, Laurel, Batangas was hit by a 2.8 magnitude quake.
Meanwhile at 10:58 AM, Calaca was rocked by a 3.7 magnitude earthquake.
“Taal continued to release high column of smoke and ash as high as 2-kilometer,” Solidum said.
“We advise not to go into the 14-km danger zone because of the possible pyroclastic density current…Hindi pa pwedeng bumalik siyempre ang peligro ng abo ay delikado,” he said.
Meanwhile, Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division chief Mariton Bornas said on January 13 that the on-going volcanic activity of Taal may last for at least three days or as long as seven months citing historical records of the past eruption of Taal Volcano.
“Hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days,” Mariton Bornas also said.
Authorities advised the residents living near the Taal volcano to evacuate immediately.
