Isko Moreno threatens to close Divisoria mall following reports of unfair wages

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday threatened to close down a shopping mall in Divisoria if foreign traders will not give proper compensation to Filipino workers.

“Don’t abuse, pay necessary salary, don’t cheat our fellow Filipino with the standard salary,” Moreno said.

“If you are chaotic in your country, if you are chaos there, do not bring it here.”

Moreno particularly called out Chinese business owners in 168 Mall who gave inadequate salary to their employees.

“Banyaga na kayo nakakapagtinda kayo rito, ayoko aapihin ninyo ang mga Filipino pagdating sa suweldo nila. Don’t do business here if you don’t pay salary. I think it’s not fair,” Moreno said.

He clarified that foreign businessmen can freely sell their goods in the city of Manila as long as they comply with his orders especially in implementing proper payment of wages to workers.

Last Moreno shut down a mall in Recto over lack of business permit to operate.

He also ordered clearing of vendors in Juan Luna street due to massive littering.
