Bangko Sentral Governor Ben Diokno has assured that the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas will ensure that digital banking in the country is safe and secure.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Diokno said he hopes to encourage more Filipinos to transact using online channels.
“Existing regulations were being reviewed to adapt to changing conditions in the digital space,” Diokno told ABS-CBN News.
In 2018, 20 percent of total transaction value were attributed to e-payments. Diokno hopes to increase this to 50 percent before his term ends in 2023.
“We have adopted rules so that we want to make sure that the digital payment is safe and sure. We want to make sure that it’s safe and so far it’s safe. Now that it’s embraced and it works, it’s a matter of applying it to other banks,” he added.
The BSP Governor shared that he too uses his phone to pay bills.
Diokno also initiated the launch of standardized QR code system and eGov Pay or the electronic payment facility for government transactions.
The BSP also sees the roll out of the national ID system as big boost in digital financial inclusion.
