Tisoy aftermath: 115,000 families in evacuation centers in typoon-hit areas

UPDATED: Typhoon Tisoy unleashed its wrath in most parts of the Bicol region as well as the two provinces of Mindoro in the past two days.

According to the estimate of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC),  the number of affected families in at least five regions has risen to 123,912.

In its 6 a.m. update Wednesday, NDRRMC said these families are from Central Luzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, National Capital Region (NCR) and MIMAROPA.

Some 114,552 families are being aided in evacuation centers while 9,360 families or 37,388 are being helped outside.

The Bicol region and the Mindoro island suffered much from the rampage of the cyclone. It has caused heavy rains and flooding, and keeled over houses due to strong gusting wind. Some major roads in these areas remain impassable.

Many local residents fled their homes before the landfall of the cyclone to seek shelter inside evacuation centers near them and with the help of LGU.
