PAGASA lifts storm signals as Tisoy heads to West Philippine Sea

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has lifted the tropical cyclone warning on the powerful Typhoon Tisoy (international name: Kammuri) as it heads towards the West Philippine Sea.

Tisoy slightly weakened into a tropical storm as it moves west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea.

As of 10 AM, the center of the severe tropical storm was located at 290 km West Southwest of Subic, Zambales.

Moderate to occasional heavy rains still prevail in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region and Aurora.

PAG-ASA warned that sea travel is still dangerous for small vessels as Gale warning is still raised in seaboards of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, as well as eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon.

“Gusty conditions associated with the Northeast Monsoon may also be experienced in other areas of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA, especially in the coastal and mountainous areas,” the state weather bureau said in its latest bulletin.

The powerful typhoon flooded low-lying villages in several parts of the country. It pounded eastern Albay where the typhoon blew ashore.

It has also caused damaged to major airports in the country including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport that had closed for 12 hours on December 3.

The Legazpi Airport, meanwhile, experience severe blows of the typhoon. Parts of its ceiling collapsed and glass panes were shattered.
