The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) has ordered the ride-hailing app Grab Philippines to refund about Php5.05 million in fares to riders due to ‘overcharging’.
Riders who may be qualified for the refund were those who booked Grab services from February to May 2019.
The order was issued by the PCC last November 14 and they gave the company 60 days to implement the refund.
This is not the first time PCC found Grab overcharging their customers. Last year, the ride hailinganpp was made to pay Php10 million to their customers.
PCC said that the merger deal between Grab and former competitor Uber Philippines led to ‘service deterioration’.
PCC adds that Grab continues to enjoy a virtual monopoly of ride-hailing app services in the country.
