Around 33,000 bottles of Johnson & Johnson baby powder are being recalled in the United States after health authorities found trace amounts of asbestos in samples taken from a bottle sample.
The powder with traces of asbestos was purchased online. Asbestos is considered to be a carcinogen known to be linked to the deadly mesothelioma.
The company’s shares fell more than 6 percent to close at $127.70.
The century-old healthcare company currently faced thousands of lawsuits. Johnson & Johnson said that the recall is limited to the baby powder produced in 2018.
The company adds that a recent test made by health authorities found no trace of asbestos to their new baby powder products.
Johnson and Johnson said that it is investigating and reviewing how a certain batch of baby powder bottles contained asbestos.
