Saudi bans pajamas, other indecent clothes in public places

Saudi Arabia has banned wearing pajamas and other clothes considered indecent in public places, the local media reported on Sunday.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry said the decision is intended to ensure decency and prevent immoral acts in all parts of the Gulf Kingdom.

The statement, carried by local newspapers, said the new regulations ban “the wearing of underwear or pajamas in public places, and prohibited clothes with phrases, images or forms that infringe modesty or public taste.”

In addition, the new rules also banned the wearing of “inappropriate clothes” in various public places and imposed a fine of SR100 for the first offence and SR200 for the second offence, according to the statement.

The new regulations went into effect on Saturday, and violators will be subject to fines and other penalties specified by the new law, it said.
