Abu Dhabi mobile court ends labor dispute of 781 expats

A labor dispute involving 781 expatriate workers who have not received their wages for months has been resolved by Abu Dhabi’s mobile labor court.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department announced Wednesday that the court managed to find a solution to the collective labor dispute.

The employers pledge to pay their workers and provide air tickets for those who wish to return home.

Officials from the court, which has been created to resolve such problems quickly, moved to the construction site and listened to the grievance of both the workers and their employers.

Newspapers said employers also agreed to some requests by workers to switch to other sponsors for new jobs in the UAE.

“The court affirmed its keenness to find quick solutions to labor issues and ensure workers will receive their rights in line with instructions by HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Chairman of the Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi,” the court said.
