The Supreme Court has allowed the pilot testing of court trials in Davao City via video conferencing starting next month to allow a number of detainees with high profile cases to testify and be cross-examined inside their prison cells.
Audio and video signals will be transmitted real-time. The defendants would feel like they are in ‘real courtroom’.
This, as the rules for the video conferencing has been approved by the high court.
Video conferencing will apply to high profile crimes which include violations of the Human Security Act like terrorism, crimes against humanity, and those whose detained suspects are considered “high-value targets”.
Video conferencing will also be applied to detainees diagnosed with serious diseases.
