A woman from another Gulf country surprised a court in Fujairah when she filed for a divorce from her local husband on the grounds he exaggerates in his love for her and she misses firmness and trouble in her life.
The unnamed wife told the judge that she feels she is “choking” because of too much love and softness by her husband.
She told court on Thursday: “I have been married for nearly one year and I have started to choke because of my husband’s excessive love for me… he never says no to me and he cleans the house and cooks though I don’t ask him to do so…
“I don’t know why everyone is surprised by my decision to have a divorce… I believe they should try the life I have… I feel bored and I am fed up with my husband’s weak character that has nothing to do with firmness and strength..
“I started to wish that I have trouble just for one day so I can feel some love for this man… sometimes I try to cause trouble but the problem he quickly forgives me… I just want him to argue and quarrel with me instead of blindly obeying me.”
Her husband, who was also not identified, said he regretted his wife’s decision adding: “Since when love has become a crime… some relatives have asked me to be firm with her but I have told them that I am a caring man, not a cruel one.”
Newspapers said the husband asked the judge to try to persuade his wife to change her decision to seek divorce on the grounds that “it is not fair to judge the marriage life in the first year.”
They said the judge adjourned the session to give the couple time to reach an out of court settlement.
