At least 27 people died while six are still missing after three motor bancas sank in Iloilo Guimaras Strait because of monsoon winds.
The incident happened within three hours as two motor bancas, MB Chi Chi and MB Keziah capsized around 12:15 pm on August 3.
The third pump boat was MB Jenny Vince which sank around 3:00 pm had 39 passengers onboard.
Angelie Buencuchillo, operations and warning staff of Iloilo city Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said, as of now they have recorded 55 survivors from at least 86 passengers.
Buencuchillo stated the figures are still partial and initial since the retrieval operation is still ongoing.
MB Chi Chi – was bound for Guimaras from Iloilo while MB Keziah was from Guimaras to Iloilo.
The incidents happened when strong waves hit the motor bancas amid bad weather brought by Southwest monsoon and a low pressure area.
