Registration for the new road toll system in Abu Dhabi will begin on August 30, ahead of the enforcement of the system in mid October.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Department of Transport (DOT) said registration cards cost Dh100 including Dh50 credit.
It said road users would be charged Dh4 during peak hours from Saturday to Thursday and Dh2 on weekends and holidays.
Users can open an account with the Department, which will send a mobile phone confirmation message to account holders, the statement said.
“The registration and opening of account is free…account holders can then buy registration cards to use those roads,” DOT said.
In a statement earlier this week, DOT warned that violators of the system could end up paying a fine of up to Dh10,000.
