The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has revealed it is set to make a coin counterpart of the orange Php20 bill.
BSP Assistant Governor Dahlia Luna told Rappler the design of the Php20 coin is now being finalized.
The BSP hopes to release the coins in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The coin version came from a study by the University of the Philippines which revealed that the Php20 peso was the most frequently used banknote and dirtiest among all denominations.
The coin version is also more durable than banknotes.
“The lifespan of a coin when recirculated is more than 10 to 15 years compared to banknotes which is less than one year,” the BSP added.
The current bill design was released back in 2010 and features former President Manuel Quezon on the front, while the Banaue Rice Terraces and the palm civet are featured on the other side.
