An Abu Dhabi court charged an expat Dh10,000 after he posted a picture of another person online without consent.
The court said that he needs to pay an additional Dh21,000 to the complainant to serve as temporary compensation for posting his photo online.
The Arab man was being accused of violating of invading another person’s privacy which is violates Federal Law No.5.
“Article 21. A person shall be punished by imprisonment of a period of at least six months and a fine not less than one hundred and fifty thousand dirhams and not in excess of five hundred thousand dirhams or either of these two penalties whoever uses a computer network or and electronic information system or any information technology means for the invasion of privacy of another person in other than the cases allowed by the law.,” the law states.
It adds that “photographing others or creating, transferring, disclosing, copying or saving electronic photos,” is prohibited by law.
The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance previously fined him of Dh10,000 but the man appealed the decision.
The higher court, however, upheld the decision.
