Initial election results prompt Pinoy netizens to Google how to “migrate”

The partial and unofficial results of the 2019 midterm elections prompted some Filipino voters to visit Google and search how to migrate into another country.

A Google Trend data shows that the keywords “migrate” and “migrating” have surged Monday night shortly after the release of the initial poll results.

Isaac Reyes, a data scientist and lead trainer at DataSeer, that he checked Google Trends after he saw a friend on Facebook complaining about the results.

To his shock, his Google Trends data analysis showed that it wasn’t just his Facebook friend who’s thinking of moving out of the country because of the election results.

“I saw a post on Facebook from a friend who was complaining that she was going to move abroad because of the election results. While she was likely joking, I wondered whether there actually were citizens who had effectively “given up” on the Philippines and were ready to move abroad in frustration. So I turned to Google Trends for some actual data on the issue, and the results were far more extreme than I had expected,” he said.

The Google Trends data revealed that Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are the countries where Filipinos prefer to migrate.
