UAE motorists who are used to speeding past pedestrian lanes without any issues will soon be facing fines and black points as Abu Dhabi Police will be launching ‘Huthar’ devices on the streets.
The Huthar devices will monitor any possible violations of drivers on pedestrian lanes through advanced artificial intelligence systems. It also aims to improve the experience of pedestrians crossing the streets at designated areas within Abu Dhabi where it will be activated.
Here are the fines which will be implemented soon:
– Speeding through crossings without giving priority to pedestrians: Dh 500 fine + 6 black points
– Stopping your vehicle exactly on the pedestrian crossing: Dh 500 fine
– Preventing the safe passage / Stopping your vehicle in a way that threatens pedestrians: Dh 400 fine
– Parking on the sidewalks: Dh 400 fine
The first phase of the plan will be the installation of the systems along schools to improve the safety of children as well as roads which experience heavy traffic to ensure that the pedestrians will have a safe environment be protected as they cross the streets.
In a post on Instagram by Emirates Vision, it states that one of the main causes of the traffic accidents that take place in Abu Dhabi were due to the lack of priority for pedestrians, thus resulting to the need for the installation of the new devices and the implementation of the new fines .
It furthers that the Abu Dhabi Police calls on UAE motorists to keep their attention on the roads, especially for pedestrians, to reduce speed near crossings, and give priority for them especially at schools and densely populated areas.
