As rains continue to hit several parts of the UAE, the Abu Dhabi Police issued a warning against recording the rain and using the phone in general while driving.
In an Instagram post, the Abu Dhabi Police reminded that motorists who are caught recording the rain while driving will result to a fine of Dh800 and incurrence of four black points.
“Enjoy the weather… but be careful. Please avoid filming the rain while driving as this is a danger to you and other drivers on the road,” the authorities’ reminder read.
The violation falls under the Article 32 of the Traffic Rules and Regulations law which states that usage of mobile phone while driving is strictly prohibited especially during the rainy season when roads are wet and slippery.
In 2017, 11 percent of road fatalities was due to distracted driving, which includes usage of mobile phone, as per the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
UAE authorities added that that 10 percent of crashes in the country could be linked to drivers using their mobile phones to browse social media or take videos while driving.
