Saudi’s Haramain high speed train to start operations next week

Commuters in Saudi Arabia will be able to take the Haramain high-speed train next week as it announced the its kick-off commercial operations starting September 24.

Traveling at 300 kilometers per hour, it can easily transport thousands of people from Madinah to Makkah.

The Jeddah station is currently being finalized while the Makkah, Madinah and Rabigh are already prepared, reported Arabian Business.

The carriages were taken for a test run in June, transporting over 200 commuters including Saudi transport minister and General Transport Authority chairman Nabil Al-Amoudi.

The operations will initially have eight trips daily and gradually increased to 12 trips next year.

Tickets are available from the Haramain High Speed Rail Project website. A one way ticket from Makkah to Jeddah costs SR20 (Dh19.58); while SR40 (Dh39.15) will take you to Makkah to Rabigh. A one-way trip from Jeddah to Rabigh costs SR23 (Dh22.51). Travelling from Jeddah to Madinah costs SR53 (Dh61.66) while tickets from Rabigh to Madinah is at SR 50 (Dh48.94).
