What binds Filipinos in UAE? Food? Experiences? Weekend get-togethers? Four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have crossed paths by their love for music.
Eatcubus, a UAE-based Filipino band shared that they came from different professional backgrounds.
Pelaez works as a head model booker; bassist Nhat Pelaez works as a wall climbing instructor; drummer Tziz Cortes is a sales manager; and lead guitarist Joven Peralta, 37, is a foreman.
Other members of the band include saxophonist Darwin Pagkalingawan, a diver in Dubai; and rhythm guitarist Abraham Yanig, a junior web developer.
In an interview with GMA News, Pelaez said: “Before this band was formed, we were already friends and have our respective bands. We just formed a band to be able to play during the New Year’s Gig at JW Marriott in 2011.”
“We played pure bossa nova for that event as per the client’s request. We pulled that off in just three days of practice. We were all surprised of our chemistry together. From then on, we decided to launch ‘Eatcubus’ formally and we played songs we all wanted to play like reggae, ska, and alternative,” she added.
Each member of the band has his/her own day job, but when they are together, they create magic through music. Their recent big gig was the TagFest, a concert staged by Tag 91.1, UAE’s first Filipino radio station.
