Chase Marcum III, a Filipino-American, chose to leave his comfortable life in the United States to stay in the Philippines and work as a security guard.
Marcum owns a house and a car in the US but left these things behind after he got a taste of the life in the Philippines.
He was born in California to a Filipino father and American mother, but his parents got divorced and grew up with his grandparents.
Marcum attended college and earned a degree in Anthropology and Humanities in the United States. He even entered the US Marines as an infantry man.
After serving his home country, he entered other jobs such as a mixed martial arts fighter, bar bouncer, and a real estate agent.
Until in the year 2000, Marcum decided to go to the Philippines and stayed in Boracay for a few weeks with his Filipino father.
He said that in that short span of time, he was able to see the simple yet happy life of the people in the Philippines.
In December 2015, Marcum decided to move and live permanently to the Philippines.
It was also in the Philippines where Marcus met the woman he fell in love with.
However, everything did not come easy for Marcum. There came a point when he no longer had money and had to sleep in a public park.
But after everything that happened to him, Marcum stayed here because it is the place where he found his true happiness, he said.
