PH population expected to balloon to 107M by end of 2018

Due to an escalated number of Filipino women capable of reproduction, the Commission on Population (POPCOM) has announced Wednesday, January 3, 2018, that the Philippine population will balloon to 107.19 million by the end of 2018.

POPCOM based the projection on the Philippines Statistics Authority on the latest census in 2015.

There is currently a record of 27.1 million Filipinas capable of reproducing between the age of 15 to 49 years old which made an increase of over 400,000 from last year’s projection.

“At least 1.8 million Filipino babies are expected to be born this year, with 4,695 babies born every day or 206 every hour,” POPCOM Executive Director Juan Antonio Perez III said.

With the growing number of early pregnancies among teenagers from 10-14 years old, POPCOM estimated a total of 33.11 million of reproductive women and girls by the year-end.

This means that 30.5 percent of the country’s population would be comprised of reproductive aged girls and women this year.

However, despite the modest decline in the percentage of adolescents, the figures for women and reproductive age and adolescent girls remain to be the highest on record.

For last year’s population, PopCom has recorded a population of 105,377,586 in 2017 and they are estimating over 107,190,081 population by December 31, 2018.
