WATCH: Tears flood NAIA as OFWs fly back to work before New Year

MANILA: While some Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are happy to be back home this holiday season, others are in tears at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as they bid goodbye to their families and loved ones for their work abroad.

In a video report of GMA 7 Balitanghali, emotional OFWs could be seen crying while giving their families a tight hug on Thursday, December 28, 2017.

Mark Anthony Jacolbe, one of the  OFWs at the airport, turned emotional as he left his child who was clinging to his knees.

“Para sa kanila ang ginagawa nating sakripisyo,” Jacolbe said.

Miraflor Esnardo, who was bound to Saudi Arabia for her two-year work contract, was fighting back her tears as she told her children how much she would miss them.

Leah Cayos was also emotional as she returned to Italy and left her partner.

“Mabigat, mahirap. Akala sa una madali, pero pag nandito na, talagang mabigat,” Cayog said while worrying that distance would take its toll on their relationship.

According to NAIA I, about 1.6 million passengers used the airport this holiday in 2017 which quantifies to an 8.7% increase from the 1.4 million passengers recorded in 2016.
