His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, donated Dh18 million to support causes to combat malaria disease.
The Crown Prince contributed the amount to support to Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership, a global platform for coordinated action against malaria, in the next three years, WAM reported.
Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu, Chief Executive Officer of RBM Partnership, said the Crown Prince’s contribution builds on the UAE leaders’ long-haul support in eradicating serious diseases, including malaria.
“UAE’s continued financial support to the RBM Partnership has helped secure the resources needed to expand malaria eradication efforts and provide investments to develop new tools that accelerate the progress made in eradicating the serious disease,” Admasu said.
The report said the UAE has long been supporting RBM Partnership, which aims to expand its operations in 10 more countries through increased funding.
The UAE will also host the next meeting of RBM Partnership in November.
Last June, HH Sheikh Mohamed pledged Dh110 million in funding to support global efforts to wipe out polio, a viral disease that mostly affects children.
He also partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to give Dh 367.3 billion to fund polio vaccination efforts in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
