500 OFWs in this ME country resign over unpaid wages

More than 500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have left a large contracting company in Kuwait after not receiving their salaries for the last eight months, ANC’s Market Edge reported.

The distressed OFWs seeked the help of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) to negotiate with the company, Kharafi National, to recover the unpaid wages of the Filipino workers.

The company’s problem with not paying their workers’ salaries on time is said to have started in 2016. The company has about 20,000 employees of different nationalities, 1000 of them are Filipinos.

“May mga pamilya kami, may mga anak kami na napatigil sa pag-aaral, may mga nasirang pamilya dahil sa hindi nakakapagpadala,” worker Andrew Sayasaya was quoted as saying.

Now, after some have transferred companies and others returned back to the Philippines, only about 500 Filipinos are still working for the contracting company.

Some expressed their concerns that other nationalities were being paid first before the Filipinos workers.

Kharafi National Company is asking them to be patient as the company is slowly paying all the unpaid wages of their workers.
