Pilot convicted of traveling to PH to rape Filipino minors

An airline pilot based in Sacramento, USA, was convicted of conspiracy to produce child pornography as well as engaging in illicit sexual conduct with minors on Tuesday, September 12.

American Michael Carey Clemans, 57, conspired with a woman in the Philippines to produce child pornography dating back as early as 2013, court documents show.

The Filipino woman acquired female children as young as seven as instructed by Clemans.

The pilot’s specific instructions to the Filipina were to look for orphans, victims of calamities, and other vulnerable children and photograph them to determine his victim the next time he would travel to the country.

He paid nearly $6,000 to the woman so she could buy photographic equipment and find discreet locations to conduct explicit photo shoots.

Clemans traveled from the United States to Manila in November 2013, to rape minors, including an 11-year-old girl.

He paid a co-conspirator residing in the Philippines to obtain temporary custody of the Filipino children and make child pornography for him, according to the U.S Attorney’s Office press release.

The pilot faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years in prison for the “buying children” charge, a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison, and a $250,000 fine.

The actual sentence, however, will be determined on December 12 by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez at the discretion of the court after taking into account sentencing guidelines.
