Palawan residents may soon have free Wi-Fi after the provincial council passed a resolution establishing free Internet facility in each 23 municipalities of the province.
Board Member Albert Rama said the resolution seeks the assistance of the Department of Information and Communication Technology in realizing the free Wi-Fi in the province.
Under the resolution, free Wi-Fi zones in public places, public markets, parks, and plazas will be set up.
“This can be a very big help to our students in the municipalities because they can access information that they need for their studies,” Rama said.
Rama said the Wi-Fi project could also leverage residents’ information awareness.
However, Rama urges students in Palawan to be responsible in using free Wi-Fi and to not contribute in the spread of fake news.
“It is an advantage but, of course, they need to be guided against fake news and fake information that they will see. I look at this as something for the sake of their learning,” he said.
