Aussie police probes terror link of hostage standoff

Police in Victoria, Australia are investigating a deadly hostage situation on Monday if it is related to terrorism.

Two men are dead and three police officers were wounded after the standoff at the Buckingham Serviced Apartments in Brighton, a suburb of Melbourne City.

A gunman took a woman hostage at the apartment around 4 p.m. and called the Channel 7 mentioning IS and Al-Qaeda, both terrorist groups.

Responding policemen saw a dead man in a foyer and went inside to confront the hostage-taker when they were fired upon. A shootout ensued killing the hostage-taker and wounding three officers.

The hostage was rescued unharmed.

Police later found out that the gunman was a parolee and known to counter-terrorist authorities.
