A total of 252 out of 317 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who completed the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) onsite skills assessment in the Middle East, passed and got their certificates.
That means a 79.49 percent certification rate, the agency said Thursday.
Some of the qualifications given were for courses such as Computer System Servicing NC II; Technical Drafting NC II; Visual Graphic Design NC III; Events Management NC III; Food and Beverage Services NC II; Caregiving NC II and Massage Therapy NC II.
It may be recalled that under the agency’s Onsite Assessment Program (OAP), TESDA held the onsite assessment in Riyadh and Al Khobar, both in Saudi Arabia, last April 28-30, and in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) last May 5-6.
TESDA also conducted the onsite assessment in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last May 4-8, and in Dubai, UAE last May 12-13.
TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong earlier noted that the program aims to determine if the OFWs possess the competencies needed in a preferred work.
Also, Mamondiong said the OAP targets to bring the OFWs out of “low skilled, low paying and oppressive work.”
“We aim to assist them to get higher skilled, better paying and decent jobs,” he added.
Meanwhile, based on TESDA’s records, 76 OFWs from Riyadh and Al Khobar took the assessment; and 70 (92.11 percent) of them received the certificates.
Jeddah had 86.91 percent certification rate or 112 out of 130. Abu Dhabi had 69.23 percent certification rate or 27 out of 39.
In Dubai, 43 out of 72 (59.7 percent) passed.
Representatives from TESDA who conducted the onsite assessment also conducted an inspection in areas that have applied for registration and accreditation to be TESDA’s assessment centers. (Ma. Cristina C. Arayata /PNA)
