DUBAI: The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Dubai will launch on October 14, the Dubai Entrepinoy Reintegration Program that will give overseas Filipinos who have returned to the country new business opportunities, and at the same time provide employment and business opportunities for OFWs in Dubai and Northern Emirates.
Dubai Entrepinoy will involve the production of organic rice, which will come from the municipality of Mlang, North Cotabato, identified as one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines, and will be distributed in the UAE, through Don Bosco Multipurpose Cooperative (DBMC) in Mlang which owns 159 hectares of internationally certified organic and halal rice.
The farmers’ cooperative has another 200 hectares or organic and halal rice, ready for OFW-investors in Dubai and Northern Emirates. Labor Attaché Ofelia Domingo, who conceptualized the program, said it will provide a doorway for economic and social reintegration, which assures a process of brain gain, in lieu of drain or loss of talent and human capital in the Philippines. It will also reduce the social costs of migration as it endeavors to help returning OFWs and their families.
Romano Laurilla, general manager of DBMC has already conducted a briefing for the technical working group, including the first 15 investors on organic farming and marketing, last September 22 to 25 at the POLO –Dubai.
