Pirate anime streaming sites KissAnime, KissManga shut down permanently

Popular pirate streaming sites KissAnime and KissManga have been shut down permanently following stricter piracy laws from Japan.

Acoording to the lifestyle platform Greek Culture, the closing down of the platforms brings an end to a decade of free content for its viewers and the anime community.

“All files are taken down by copyright owners. KissManga and KissAnime will be closed forever. Thank you for your supports. Thank you for those years,” said an official statement released by the KissAnime support team.

The shutdown of the websites follows the recently enacted proposed revised copyright law by Japan’s parliament—which seeks to penalize those who download illegally uploaded or pirated magazines, and academic content.

While it is not the first time that an anime and manga platform has been punished by Japan’s piracy law, it is by far the biggest shutdown the community has seen. Before this, popular manga hosting platform Manga Rock was also permanently closed down.
