Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday visited the wake of the three students who were killed in the deadly shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City.
According to the Office of the Vice President, Duterte personally extended her condolences and prayers to the families of the victims as they continue to mourn the loss of their loved ones.
The vice president met with relatives of the slain students and offered support following the tragedy that shocked the local community and the country.
The shooting occurred on June 22 when two male students, aged 14 and 15, allegedly opened fire inside the school campus.
Three students were killed while several others were injured in the attack.
Authorities have taken the suspects into custody and continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting.
Duterte said the incident should serve as a wake-up call for government agencies and stakeholders to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting children and ensuring safety in schools.
The shooting has sparked renewed discussions on school security, youth violence, online influences and the country’s juvenile justice policies.
Government agencies continue to provide assistance, counseling and other forms of support to the victims’ families and the affected school community.
