Former Vice President Leni Robredo has reportedly identified three possible presidential candidates for the opposition coalition in the 2028 elections should she decide not to run.
Speaking in an interview on Bilyonaryo News Channel’s “At The Forefront,” Liberal Party President Atty. Erin Tañada said Robredo had mentioned Senator Kiko Pangilinan, former Senator Bam Aquino and Senator Risa Hontiveros as potential contenders.
“If she does not run, then whoever will be the candidate of the coalition, because there has been agreement anyway that it has to be only one, then the Liberal Party will support that candidate,” Tañada said.
He added that the names came directly from Robredo during discussions on possible opposition candidates.
“It also came from Mayor Leni that she mentioned already a list of names. There’s Kiko, there’s Bam, there’s Risa. So these are people that are possibilities,” he said.
According to Tañada, formal discussions within the opposition coalition are expected to continue after the holiday season as political groups work toward identifying a common candidate.
“Everyone will be in Christmas mode. So it’s usually after New Year, then there will be already a synergy on who that candidate will be,” he said.
Tañada noted that any decision would still depend on Robredo’s own political plans and the overall political landscape leading to the 2028 elections.
Robredo, who lost the 2022 presidential race, returned to local politics after winning as mayor of Naga City.
Opposition leaders have repeatedly emphasized the need to unite behind a single presidential candidate in 2028 to avoid splitting votes among anti-administration and independent blocs.
