Senator Raffy Tulfo denied allegations that members of the Senate minority bloc were recruiting senators and issuing threats to remove the current Senate leadership.
“We will never do that,” Tulfo told reporters when asked about reports claiming that some members of the minority were convincing senators to form a new majority bloc.
In a separate interview, Tulfo confirmed that the minority bloc recently held a caucus, but said their discussion centered on how they would handle the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Tulad ng sinasabi ng lahat, manipis. Mas maganda siguro magtrabaho kaming lahat saka pag-isipan ang coup d’etat,” Tulfo said.
The senator’s remarks came after Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano earlier revealed that some members of the new majority bloc were allegedly receiving calls and threats related to another possible leadership change, days after he assumed the Senate presidency on May 11.
Tulfo also said he would remain part of the minority bloc despite losing the chairmanship of several Senate committees.
“Minority. Come what may,” he added.
Meanwhile, Senators Panfilo Lacson and Loren Legarda were seen smiling together as they exited an elevator days after the recent leadership shakeup in the Senate.
Lacson earlier said Legarda, who replaced him as Senate President Pro Tempore, could have informed members of the former majority bloc about her decision to switch sides before the leadership change took place.
“My sentiment, and I think my colleagues in the former majority share this, is that it is sad that Sen. Legarda, one of our originals in the former majority, did not inform us of her decision,” Lacson said.
“I am not taking anything away from her decision to join Senator Cayetano, but we just hoped she would at least have told us instead of surprising us,” he added.
