The legal team of Vice President Sara Duterte said it will comply with the Senate impeachment court’s order requiring her to respond to the Articles of Impeachment within 10 calendar days.
In a message to reporters, Duterte’s lawyer and spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa said the defense acknowledges the Senate’s move to convene as an impeachment court and the forthcoming issuance of a writ of summons.
“We will comply and file the appropriate response in accordance with the Constitution and applicable rules,” Poa said.
However, he declined to discuss the defense’s legal strategy, saying the team will respect the ongoing proceedings.
“At this stage, and out of respect for the process, we find it prudent to refrain from further comment,” he added.
Under the Senate impeachment court’s directive, Vice President Sara Duterte must submit her answer within 10 calendar days upon receipt of the summons. Failure to respond would allow the impeachment court to proceed with trial.
