UAE launches ‘Tourist Identity’ for instant bank account access

The Central Bank of the UAE has introduced a new digital service allowing tourists to open bank accounts instantly upon arrival in the country.

The initiative, called “Tourist Identity,” was launched in partnership with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank.

Under the system, visitors receive a secure digital identity at entry, powered by biometric and facial recognition technology. This identity can be linked to a mobile banking app, enabling tourists to open accounts within minutes, access digital debit cards, and begin transactions immediately.

The fully digital process eliminates the need for traditional paperwork and allows visitors to manage finances more easily during their stay.

Officials said the initiative supports the UAE’s broader push toward a cashless economy by integrating tourists into the country’s payment ecosystem, including platforms like Jaywan and Aani.

Authorities added that the system enhances convenience for travelers, particularly those on extended stays or business trips, while reinforcing the UAE’s position as a digital-first global destination.
