The National Bureau of Investigation arrested journalist and former television host Jay Sonza on Thursday evening in Quezon City over a cyberlibel case.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag confirmed that Sonza was apprehended following the issuance of an arrest warrant by a Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
Authorities said the case is linked to the alleged spread of fabricated medical records involving President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
The NBI earlier identified Sonza as among the primary sources of the false information circulating online.
Sonza is now under NBI custody.
His legal counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, said he would proceed to the NBI to ensure that his client’s rights are protected, particularly as a senior citizen.
The case stems from a cyberlibel complaint filed in February against Sonza and another vlogger over the alleged dissemination of false information about the President’s health.
