Iran, Oman push for safe Hormuz transit amid rising regional tensions

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held high-level talks with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in Muscat focusing on strengthening cooperation among Hormuz littoral states to ensure safe maritime transit amid escalating tensions involving the United States and Israel.

In a post on X, Araghchi expressed appreciation to his Omani hosts and highlighted discussions on bilateral relations and regional developments.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among neighboring countries, noting that ensuring secure transit through the strategic waterway would benefit both the region and the global community.

The meeting, held at Al-Baraka Palace on Sunday, centered on the evolving regional situation, with both sides underscoring the need to address crises through dialogue and diplomatic engagement. Talks also covered efforts to deepen cooperation between Iran and Oman.

Araghchi briefed Omani leaders on Tehran’s perspective on recent developments and outlined Iran’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives to manage conflicts in the region.
He also commended Oman’s continued role in promoting dialogue and mediation aimed at fostering regional stability.

For his part, Sultan Haitham reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to facilitating diplomatic solutions, stressing the importance of prioritizing dialogue to reduce the impact of ongoing crises on civilians. He emphasized that sustained engagement and mediation are crucial to achieving long-term peace and security.

The meeting comes amid heightened tensions linked to the US-Israel conflict involving Iran, with Tehran ramping up diplomatic outreach across multiple countries.

Oman has long served as a key mediator in regional disputes, particularly in facilitating indirect negotiations between Iran and Western nations.

Following his visit to Oman, Araghchi traveled to Pakistan, where he met senior civil and military officials, including Army Chief Asim Munir, as part of continued diplomatic efforts.

He later proceeded to Russia for further consultations with senior officials.
