Kuwait reopens airspace after nearly two-month closure

Kuwait City has reopened its airspace starting April 24 evening, ending a nearly two-month suspension of flights, according to the state news agency Kuna.

Authorities said flight operations will resume gradually under a phased plan, beginning with the reopening of Terminals 4 and 5 to selected destinations starting Sunday.

The temporary suspension, imposed since February 28, was described as a precautionary measure amid regional tensions.

Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al Sabah said the reopening was coordinated with local and international partners to ensure aviation safety and security standards are met.

He added that full operations will resume in stages, depending on ongoing assessments of airport readiness and operational requirements.

Authorities said damage inspections were completed following what they described as an Iranian attack and actions by affiliated armed groups. Technical teams have since carried out maintenance and repairs to restore functionality.

Initial flights will be limited to selected destinations, with further expansion subject to review after each phase.

Sheikh Hamoud also acknowledged the support of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in facilitating airline operations during the disruption, and credited regional coordination and government leadership for helping accelerate the airport’s recovery.
