Malacañang has dismissed as fake news a circulating “announcement” purportedly issued by the Department of Energy (DOE), claiming that an energy lockdown would begin on April 20, 2026.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the advisory, which bears the DOE logo, is fraudulent.
In a Viber message to reporters, Castro stressed that the supposed announcement is “fake news.”
The false advisory urged the public to stock up on power banks, solar equipment, candles, lamps, food, and other supplies in preparation for the alleged energy lockdown.
Castro had earlier clarified during a March 27 press briefing that no energy lockdown is expected despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East and Iran’s rejection of talks with the United States.
She added that the government is stepping up efforts to secure the country’s oil supply from alternative sources.
