In a recent report released by proxy provider Proxyrack, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been crowned the social media capital of the world, boasting an impressive score of 9.55 out of 10.
The study, which assessed the average number of social platforms accessed and the percentage of the population using Facebook in each country, deemed the UAE as the frontrunner in the global social media landscape.
One of the key findings of the study highlighted that people in the UAE utilize an average of 8.2 social media platforms, securing them the third-highest position worldwide. Furthermore, the country demonstrated the highest percentage of individuals using Facebook, solidifying its reputation as a thriving social media hub.
Trailing closely behind the UAE, both Malaysia and the Philippines secured the joint second place with a score of 8.75. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia claimed the fourth spot with a score of 8.41. In Saudi Arabia, residents typically engage with just under eight social media platforms, and a notable 71 percent of the population actively utilizes Facebook.
In addition to being crowned the social media capital, the UAE also earned the distinction of being the most connected country globally, achieving a score of 7.53 out of 10 in the study. This accolade was determined by several factors, including the average time spent using the internet per day, the average number of social media platforms used, fixed broadband subscriptions per 100 people, mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 people, the population’s internet usage, the population using Facebook, and the average cost of internet services.
Across these categories, the UAE garnered high rankings, except in one area—average internet cost. It was revealed that the UAE faced the highest cost for internet services, with an average of $100. Similarly, Saudi Arabia, which secured the sixth position in the overall ranking with a score of 6.2, also faced a relatively high average internet cost of $72.
The study delved further into the internet habits of UAE residents and unveiled that they spend an average of 7 hours and 29 minutes per day using the internet. Comparatively, individuals in Saudi Arabia dedicate 7 hours and 20 minutes daily to their online activities, positioning the UAE and Saudi Arabia as the 13th and 15th highest countries, respectively, in terms of daily internet usage.
The UAE’s remarkable performance in the study showcases its status as a digitally connected nation and underscores the widespread adoption of social media platforms among its populace. With its tech-savvy population and thriving digital infrastructure, the UAE continues to lead the way in harnessing the power of social media and connectivity, setting a benchmark for countries worldwide.
