“Our police personnel in Lamitan City is already conducting an investigation regarding the case. So far, it is speculative to assume its direct relation to the shooting incident that happened last Sunday at the Ateneo de Manila University,” PNP PIO Chief, BGen. Roderick Alba said.

The assailants escaped but police would not say whether the killing was connected to the murder of former Lamitan Mayor Rosita “Rose” Furigay along with two other individuals following the Ateneo de Manila University shooting last July 24.

The incident happened five days after the said shooting, where Dr. Yumol was arrested as the main suspect.

In an interview with a radio station, Atty. Qurino Esguerra, a lawyer of the Furigay family, said that they were shocked and saddened by the news.
