The Philippines’ outgoing Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat will head the central bank as its fifth deputy governor.
BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno confirmed the appointment of Puyat as deputy governor, on Wednesday, June 1.

Puyat who has an economics background, having earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of the Philippines, will be in charge of financial inclusion, regional operations.
She will join the central bank’s team of deputy governors including Francisco Dakila Jr. (monetary and economic sector), Chuchi Fonacier (financial supervision sector), Mamerto Tangonan (payments and currency management sector), and Eduardo Bobier (corporate services sector).

She became lecturer of the UP School of Economics from 1994 to 2006 and was an undersecretary at the Department of Agriculture in 2007-2018 and also served as economic consultant for the Housing and Urban Development Coordination Council in 2001-2002 and the Presidential Management Staff in 2005-2006, and later deputy Cabinet secretary in 2006.
