The president of the National Unity Party (NUP) and Cavite 4th District Representative Elpidio Barzaga has thrown support for the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo.
The endorsement came after the camp of Bongbong Marcos claimed that NUP is supporting his candidacy.
Barzaga said Robredo is the most qualified person to assume the country’s top post after analyzing all the qualifications and experience of the current roster of presidential contenders.
“As vice president, although she was not a Cabinet secretary, she showed to us citizens that the vice president, unlike the connotation which others believe, is not merely a spare tire. With a limited budget, she was able to undergo small projects from the neglected parts of our country,” Barzaga said.
Barzaga’s wife, Jenny Barzaga, also backed Robredo’s candidacy.
Incumbent Cavite representative and Imus mayoral candidate Alex Advincula announced that he is also backing Robredo’s presidential bid in a separate campaign rally on Saturday.
The back-to-back endorsements in Cavite are seen to boost Robredo’s standing in the May 9 polls. The province is home to 2.3 million voters.
