Presidential candidate Ping Lacson claimed that his failure to contribute PHP800 million campaign funds and not pre-election surveys was the basis of his political party to shift their support to Vice President Leni Robredo.
Lacson resigned from Partido Reporma hours before Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, the party’s president, endorsed the presidential bid of Robredo.
The senator claimed that Alvarez’s chief of staff asked for the staggering amount of campaign fund which he could not provide.
“He also cited pre-election surveys as his primary reason for switching his support which of course I don’t believe because he forgot that like me, Mayor Isko and Sen. Pacquiao, his newly chosen candidate is also lagging far behind the survey leader,” Lacson said.
“Time to call a spade a spade. It was actually more about the issue of campaign expenses for their local candidates. His chief of staff was asking for P800 million pesos in additional funding which I honestly told him I cannot produce,” he added.
