Close contacts for COVID-positive patients in UAE no longer need to quarantine from Feb 26 – here’s what you should do

The UAE has announced that it will be removing quarantine requirements for close contacts of COVID-positive patients from February 26.

Instead of quarantine, all close contacts are now mandated to undergo a daily PCR test for five days, according to the latest update from the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA), in coordination with its main partners.

NCEMA added that the isolation protocol for infected will continue as previously announced, without any change. The infected, however, will no longer wear wristbands.

The announcement comes in support of the ongoing efforts at the country level to achieve sustainable recovery while maintaining public health and safety against the background of the continuation of various activities and return to normalcy nationwide.

Authorities have announced that mask-wearing is now optional outdoors but remain mandatory in public indoor spaces.

NCEMA stressed the continuity of following the Green Pass requirement, or presenting a negative PCR test result of no more than 96 hours to attend all local events, exhibitions, and cultural and social activities.

For economic and tourist sectors, physical distancing has been canceled while mask-wearing in closed places is still mandatory.
