The ongoing campaign activities may trigger an increase in COVID-19 infections, according to Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque.
Duque said sorties could potentially become superspreader events.
“It is really possible for cases to increase if we are complacent if restrictions will not be enforced and observed,” he said in a radio interview.
He also urged government agencies to ensure that at sorties are complying with the minimum public health standards.
In-person campaigning is allowed under the new COMELEC resolution, but this will be dependent on existing alert levels.
Meanwhile, house-to-house campaigns, handshakes, kisses, hugs, taking selfies are prohibited.
Candidates must also secure permits from COMELEC if they plan to hold meetings, caucuses, and miting de avance.
